Assam is well connected by air and railway and has a network of good roads to take you to exotic locales. And there's comfortable accommodation to suit all budgets-from guesthouses run by the Tourism Department, circuit houses and luxury hotels.

Air Connectivity

Guwahati is well connected by air, rail and roadways with the rest of the country. Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat, Silchar and Lilabari also have airports. Within the state there are good road and rail links between major towns in the state as well as with those in the adjoining states.

The nearest airport is Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport which is 25 kms from the city.

Guwahati is serviced by flights of all major airlines of India. There are direct flights to Guwahati from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Jaipur and many other cities.

There are Helicopter services from Guwahati to Shillong, Tura and Naharlagun (Itanagar)

Taxi services including pre-paid service, are available at the airport for transfer to the city. Taxis can also be hired at the airport for Shillong.

Rail Connectivity

Nearest railhead is Guwahati (located close to downtown).

Guwahati is the headquarters of North-East Frontier Railway and is linked to all the major cities of India through superfast and express trains. Within the North-East, broad and meter-gauge train services link the city with Dimapur (9 hrs), Tinsukia (16 hrs), Dibrugarh (18 hrs) and Murkong-Selek (15 hrs).

There are superfast and express trains connecting Assam to all major cities of India.

Road Connectivity

Guwahati has the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) from where Luxury buses can be availed for almost any part of North East. The Assam State Transport Corporation has offices and reservation/booking facilities all over the State. Other state transport corporations and private operators add to the region's network. Bus travel is not expensive and tourist buses are better than ordinary ones and have overnight services to many towns.

Guwahati is the junction of National Highway Nos. 31, 37, 40 and 52. It is the nodal point for road transport in the region.
